It highlights the challenge posed by the short interval, often around two years, between recruitment and the conduct of elections, especially at the Provincial and Regency/City levels. To address this, the study recommends extending the tenure of organizers whose terms end in 2023 and 2024 until the election stages are completed and accelerating the recruitment for those whose terms end during the election process. It also emphasizes the importance of the selection team's composition, advocating for neutrality and the involvement of the Election Organizer Ethics Council (DKPP) and the Regional Examination Team (TPD) to ensure high-integrity candidates. These measures aim to enhance the recruitment quality and ensure the efficient execution of elections, thereby strengthening Indonesia's electoral system.
2023-03-12T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Rizky Dwi Kusuma, Riski Puspita Lestarihttps://www.journal.mengeja.id/index.php/JGPI/article/view/62Human Rights Crisis in Jammu and Kashmir2022-04-24T00:18:41+00:00Showkat Ahmad Dardarshowkat41@gmail.com
This manuscript presents a critical analysis of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to shed light on the gravity of the ongoing crisis. The research focuses on the systematic nature of abuses, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, sexual violence, and restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly. Employing a descriptive and analytical approach, the study examines the impact of these violations on civilians' lives in the conflict-ridden region, utilizing secondary data sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex human rights situation. The findings reveal alarming statistics, with over 70,000 killings, 8,000 enforced disappearances, and 10,000 cases of torture documented since the insurgency began. Draconian laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA) have granted security forces immunity, leading to arbitrary detentions and the use of force against civilians. Socio-economic consequences are substantial, with child labor, bonded labor, and forced marriages adding to the challenges. Minority communities, particularly the Muslim community, have faced discriminatory treatment, further exacerbating the crisis. The study emphasizes the urgency of addressing the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir, calling for concrete actions from the government and the international community. By highlighting the widespread violations and their impact on various aspects of life, this research urges collective efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of the people in the region. It contributes to the growing body of knowledge on human rights in Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for justice, peace, and respect for human rights.
2023-03-29T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Showkat Ahmad Darhttps://www.journal.mengeja.id/index.php/JGPI/article/view/76Corruption as a Contributing Factor to Unemployment and Environmental Pollution in Nigeria2022-06-09T09:51:15+00:00Ugonna Paschal Nzenaridreamworks2022@gmail.com
The need to root out corruption from the system of nations for all round national peace, growth and development cannot be over emphasized. This study has been undertaken to examine corruption as a contributing factor to unemployment and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Descriptive survey was adopted for the study and multistage sampling techniques was used in the process. The study was narrowed down to two states within the Niger Delta. The population of the study comprised former and present employees of all illegal oil refineries (dumps) within the region. However, the total respondents sampled were two hundred, questionnaire was the instrument used to collect data for the study. The findings of the study include high level of corruption among politica l leaders and public office holders, illegal oil activities as a result of unemployment, crude oil theft and its local distillation process as a major cause of environmental pollution. The study recommended among other things that government should rehabilitate the youths who engage in these activities, recognize their skills and potentials, legalize their activities with strict supervision, and support them with modular refineries to reduce unemployment and dependency on oil importation.
2023-03-28T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Ugonna Paschal Nzenarihttps://www.journal.mengeja.id/index.php/JGPI/article/view/100The Influence of COVID-19 on Community Participation in the Mayoral Election2023-08-09T03:23:38+00:00Wahyu Adi Putrawahyuadiputraip@gmail.comLukman Hakimlukman.hakim@gmail.comHardianto Hawinghardianto.hw@gmail.com
This study aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 on public participation in the mayoral election, focusing on the Barombong sub-district of Makassar City. Employing a quantitative approach and field research methodology, data was collected by distributing 98 questionnaires to residents of Barombong sub-district, Tamalate sub-district, who participated in the 2020 Makassar City Mayoral Election. The data analysis methods included descriptive analysis, classical assumption tests, simple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing using SPSS 21. The findings revealed that COVID-19 (X) had a positive influence on Community Participation (Y) in the Makassar Mayoral Election. Consequently, the primary hypothesis of this study was confirmed, indicating that COVID-19 did influence community participation in the election. While the general perception of COVID-19 is concerning, this research suggests that its impact on voter turnout was minimal, with only a 0.3 percent increase in community participation in the mayoral election.
2023-03-28T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Wahyu Adi Putra, Lukman Hakim, Hardianto Hawinghttps://www.journal.mengeja.id/index.php/JGPI/article/view/86Women in the Political Landscape2023-04-09T12:08:29+00:00Rex Tirantiranrex29@gmail.comDiana S.A. Women often face multifaceted socio-political challenges, necessitating them to invest more resources and effort than their male counterparts to make their mark in politics. This research examines the roles and contributions of female legislators in the NTT Provincial DPRD for the 2019-2024 tenure, particularly in aligning with the interests of political parties and the broader categorization of women in legislative bodies. The strategies employed to allocate positions to women are diverse, reflecting their aspirations to enhance their influence and access in politics. These aspirations are anchored in the desire to bolster the capacities of women and youth in political spheres. Emphasizing the significance of economic, social, and political capacities, this study underscores the need for women to possess financial resources, robust social networks, and political acumen to navigate and thrive in the political landscape.
2023-03-28T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Rex Tiran, Diana S.A. The data for this research is procured from authoritative sources, namely the Statistics Indonesia (Indonesian: Badan Pusat Statistik, BPS, lit. 'Central Agency on Statistics') and the National Research and Innovation Agency (Indonesian: Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional, BRIN). To analyze the data, a multiple linear regression method was employed, utilizing cross-sectional data. The findings reveal that, when considered collectively, all the variables significantly influence Central Java's economic growth. On an individual level, infrastructure, ICT, and economic stability each demonstrate a marked positive correlation with economic growth. Drawing from these insights, the study underscores the imperative for devising comprehensive macro-socioeconomic policies. Such strategic interventions are crucial to ensure that Central Java's economic growth remains both robust and sustainable over time.
2023-03-28T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 Pardomuan Robinson Sihombing, Ade Marsinta Arsani, Rouland Benyamin, Sigit Budiantoro
